Ebooks Accessibility

This guide gives an overview of ebooks available via the Library, and details how each of the various ebook platforms allows the user to do various tasks such as read, download on to a mobile device, copy, or print ebooks.

Quick facts about Ebook Central

  • Checkout/Number of Users: Varies from single copy to unlimited copies.
  • Availability: The vast majority of titles should be consistently available. However, due to the subscription nature many ProQuest titles, on occasion titles will be dropped from this collection and be removed from our holdings.
  • Access: Available to read online online or via download (see download instructions below).
  • Format: Some titles are available as unrestricted PDF. Most titles are only available as DRM (digital rights management) restricted files.
  • Copy/Print options: Most titles restrict you to a limited number of pages to copy or print.
  • Interlibrary Loan: Cannot be loaned.
  • Accessibility: Once logged in to your ProQuest account, you can turn on accessibility settings including switching to the Open Dyslexic typeface. PDF and EPUB format both work with Read&Write. To use JAWS or NVDA, you need to download the ebook to Adobe Digital Editions. More information can be found under the Accessibility Options tab.

How to Access Ebrary Titles Online: Titles with No Restrictions

After you have found an Ebook Central title you like through one of the library discovery tools, you can read the title in your internet browser or download it to your device. Note that this example has no copy, print, or download restrictions. This means that you can read it in any platform that supports PDF and that there is no time limit on how long you can access it.

Under Download Book is the option to download the entire book or individual chapters as PDF. Next to Read Online is a note saying that there are no copy, print, or download restrictions on this title.

You can start from the beginning by clicking "Read Online", or you can jump straight to a specific Chapter using the "Table of Contents".

 

How to Access Ebrary Titles Online: Titles with Restrictions

Note that this book has Unlimited Users but does have copy, print, and download restrictions. This means that you can read it only online or download it to Adobe Digital Editions for a restricted number of days. Details about how to use Adobe Digital Editions are below.

Example title is The Development and Challenges of Russian Corporate Governance by Oksana Kim. It has options to Read Online or to Download Book. A note states that we have unlimited access but also below that it provides information about the number of pages you can copy or download.

How to Download and Read Ebook Central Titles on Your Device

Alternatively, you can choose to download a title for reading offline, either on your desktop or on a mobile device. The process takes a few steps, and requires you to make an EBook Central account and download reader software Adobe Digital Editions.

  1. Starting from the Ebook Central title page, click "Full Download". This will take you to the following sign-in page. To download please sign in. You will be taken to Minnesota State University Mankato's sign in page.
  2. Click Create account and follow the instructions.
  3. After you have created an account and are signed in, you will be taken to the Download screen. Select what kind of device you are using (Desktop, iOS, or Android).
  4. What device are you using? Desktop or laptop PC, Apple iOS, Android, or other.
  5. Depending on your choice above, you will be asked to Download either Adobe Digital Editions or another supported platform. You may have create an Adobe ID account.
  6. You may have the option to select the number of days you'd like to download this ebook for.
  7. download your book for 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days.
  8. Click Download. Depending on your your device, the file should open in either Adobe Digital Editions or an alternative platform.
  9. Enjoy your ebook!
