Ebooks Accessibility

This guide gives an overview of ebooks available via the Library, and details how each of the various ebook platforms allows the user to do various tasks such as read, download on to a mobile device, copy, or print ebooks.

eBook Collection

Quick facts about Ebsco Ebooks

  • Checkout/Number of Users: varies from single use to unlimited copies.
  • Availability: All Ebsco titles are purchased, and should always be available through the library discovery tools.
  • Access: Available to read online on the Ebscohost website or via download (see download instructions below).
  • Format: If downloading, only available in Adobe Digital Editions on the desktop or via the Ebsco Ebooks app on Android or iOS.
  • Copy/Print options: Can only print a certain amount of pages, depending on title.
  • Interlibrary Loan: Cannot be loaned.
  • Accessibility Tools: EBSCO has built-in navigation tools for those using screen readers with select browsers. PDF and EPUB format both work with Read&Write. To use JAWS or NVDA, you need to download the ebook to Adobe Digital Editions.

How to Access eBook Titles Online: Titles with No Restrictions

After you have found an eBook Collection title you like through one of the library discovery tools, you can read the title in your internet browser or download it to your device. Note that this example has no copy, print, or download restrictions. This means that you can read it in any platform that supports PDF and that there is no time limit on how long you can access it.

You can start from the beginning by clicking one of the Full Text options, or you can jump straight to a specific Chapter by scrolling down to the Table of Contents.

 

How to Access eBook Collection Titles Online: Titles with Restrictions

Note that this book has a limit of 3 users at a time and more restrictive copy, print, and download restrictions. This means that you can read it only online or download it to Adobe Digital Editions for a restricted number of days. Details about how to use Adobe Digital Editions are below.

How to Download and Read eBook Collection Titles on Your Device

Alternatively, you can choose to download a title for reading offline, either on your desktop or on a mobile device. The process takes a few steps, and requires you to make an EBSCO account and download reader software Adobe Digital Editions.

1. Starting from the eBook Collection title page, click "Full Download". This will take you to the following sign-in page.

2. Click Create account and follow the instructions.

3. After you have created an account and are signed in, you will be taken to the Download screen. Select what kind of device you are using and the number of days you'd like to borrow this book.

To borrow this eBook, you will need to select a download duration and choose a format, PDF for desktop or epub for mobile devices. You also have to have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your device..

4. Depending on your choice above, you will be asked to Download either Adobe Digital Editions or another supported platform. You may have create an Adobe ID account.

5. Click Download. Depending on your your device, the file should open in either Adobe Digital Editions or an alternative platform.

6. Enjoy your ebook!
