COMM 100: Monroe's Motivated Sequence

Visualizing the Future

Construct an image of a future that reflects the proposed solution, as well as the benefits to be derived from implementing the proposed plan. Consider employing one of three techniques to encourage support of your plan when you present your visualization of the future:

  • negative method--describes how the consequences impact the audience
  • positive method--describes how the consequences can be alleviated or mitigated
  • contrast method--combines both the negative and positive methods

Preempt objections to your plan by identifying and responding to possible counter-arguments or objections the audience may have.
