Americans and the Holocaust Traveling Exhibition

Memorial Library

Field Trips

Overview

Program Description

Memorial Library offers Field Trip Programs for Grades 6 –12.

Each Program includes 90 minutes of content, with 30 minutes built in for transitions and bus drop-off and pick-up.  Teachers should estimate the total time on campus to be 4 hours.  This does not include your travel to and from your local school

Students will learn about the many factors that influenced decisions made by the U.S. Government, the news media, organizations, and individuals as they responded to Nazism and genocide in Europe in the 1930s and 1940s.

Activities:

  1. Guided Tour of the Exhibition (45 Minutes): Students will be led by a representative from Memorial Library through the exhibit.
  2. Not The Last Butterfly Project and Discussion (45 Minutes): Students will have the opportunity to decorate a wooden butterfly and discuss what they learned from the exhibition.

Attendee Restrictions

Due to space limitations, we can accommodate up to 40 students and 4 adults (including teachers and chaperones) per program time.  Due to the nature of the content and its physical location in an active university library, we strongly recommend a ratio of 1 adult (teacher or chaperone) per 10 students.

Most high school students will be visiting an academic library for the first time. This is a great opportunity to learn about university libraries, and how they support students’ academic journies. Instructors who desire extended tours of Memorial Library should contact Cami Kottke.
