Textbook Affordability

Information on textbook affordability initiatives at Minnesota State University, Mankato

Class Resource List (Leganto) is Here!

Leganto is a new product, supported by Library Services, PALS, IT Solutions, and MinnState Information Technology Services, that allows faculty to easily create class resource lists that seamlessly connect library resources, such as books, eBooks, journals, journal articles, streaming video, and freely available materials, such as Open Educational Resources, Open Access articles, TED Talks, Library Guides (LibGuides), websites, and more directly into a D2L course.  Leganto allows you to quickly assemble a curated list of citations for your students to access content through library subscriptions and resources or through freely available materials for a specific class or around a specific topic.  Leganto supports textbook affordability by making library and freely available content directly available in D2L.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Leganto?

Leganto is a library-supported tool for building and sharing linked class resource lists. Think of it as a course packet for the digital age.

What can I add to a list in Leganto?

Pretty much anything! You can add any resource available through the library, including licensed eBooks and full text articles, as well as anything available on the open web, including websites, podcasts, Youtube videos, Open Educational Resources, and more. You can also upload PDFs (all resources must comply with copyright law).

What are the benefits of Leganto?

Leganto integrates with D2L so all class resources are available to students in one convenient location. Broken links are easily reported to the library to be fixed.

Instructors can make copies of lists and assign them to new courses without hassle.

Leganto supports course materials affordability by encouraging the use of library and online resource that are free for students to use.

Does Leganto work if a student is off campus?

YES! Leganto is a great option for students seeking course readings both on and off campus because the list links directly to resources on the library website or resources available to anyone on the web. Gone are the days of copying and pasting links from databases and catalog searches onto D2L pages only for the links not to work for students off campus.

How do I get started?

Contact Emma Schmidtke, OER Librarian, to discuss using Leganto and getting set up with an account. Once your account is created, login and begin building your class resource lists (see video tutorials below). A librarian will then review your list and prompt integration to your D2L course.
