The Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) vocabulary has thousands of subjects in the form "[concept] in literature" and "[concept] in motion pictures". If you have a specific concept in mind: bread, homesickness, grief, and so on, try searching for that concept followed by the words "in literature" or if you are working with film, "in motion pictures". This will provide a good deal of literary criticism for many topics.
