Children's Fiction: Middle Grade Novels

This guide provides an overview of Memorial Library's children's fiction collection, with suggestions for read-alikes for our most popular titles.

Middle Grade Novels

Middle Grade novels, usually for ages 10-12 (and beyond), deal with more complicated issues in children's lives, such as friendships, family issues, puberty, and aspirations. These books will be longer and have fewer illustrations and more sophisticated vocabulary.  The complex and intricate plots will engage growing readers.  Below are some of our favorite Middle Grade Novels!

*Note: The line between Middle Grade and Young Adult novels can sometimes be blurry. Children ages 10 and up will enjoy reading both types of novels all through high school. Be sure to read summaries and reviews to understand a book's content.
