Memorial Library at MSU, Mankato is full of great books and other items you can check out, but you may want to keep these materials longer than the date they are due back to the library. In this case, you’ll want to extend, or what we call renew, the amount of time you can keep the items, and avoid overdue fees or delays with class registration.
WarningPlease note: Not all items can be renewed.
To access your library account, start at MSU's homepage and navigate to the Library's page.
On the Library's homepage, below the MavScholar search bar, click on the link labeled "My Library Account."
To login, click the "StarID Login" option.
Then login with your StarID and password (same as for your email).
Your library account will open on a page called "Overview." It will give brief information about loans checked out, fines and fees, requests, or other messages. To see information about which books you currently have checked out, click on the "Loans" tab.
This page will show you all your items on loan, including titles, authors, and due dates.
To renew all of your items, go to the top of the "Loans" page and click the button that says "Renew All."
To renew specific items, check the small box next to the book's title. Then use the "Renew" button on each line. Or, if you have selected more than one item to renew, use the "Renew Selected"e; button at the top of the page,
If your books and materials have been successfully renewed, the due dates will change to reflect the new due date.
If item cannot be renewed, an explanatory message will appear. If you have any issues or questions, feel free to call the Circulation Desk at 507-389-5931
Some books may not have a "Renew" button next to the item. If this is the case, you can not renew these items. Some items simply not be renewed online, or else you may have already renewed your materials the maximum number of times.
In this case, you will need to physically bring the item back into the library to check back in. If no one else has requested the book or item, most of the time you will be able to check it back out again.
Another way you can renew items is by submitting an email renewal request.
Reply to the Minnesota State Mankato Library Courtesy or Overdue notice to request a renewal. Renewal requests sent by email to msulibrary@mnsu.edu must include your name, MavCard barcode or Tech ID, and the item barcodes of the items you wish to renew.
The last way you can renew books and other materials is in person.
To do this, bring your MavCard in to the Circulation Desk at the LIbrary and ask staff to renew your library materials. Unliess items are already overdue, you do not need to bring the items to be renewed.
You can also renew a book or other items borrowed from a different library, an Interlibrary Loan or ILL, from the same library account pages.
First, navigate from the Overview of you Library Account. If you wish to see the status of an ILL or cancel the request, click on the "Requests" button. If you want to renew an already checked-out ILL, go to the Loans tab
In the Loans tab, the renewal process will be nearly identical as other items. Check the boxes for items you wish to renew, or choose "Renew All" option at the top of the page.
If you have been successful, a notification should appear immediately stating that a "Renew request has been sent to resource sharing lender and is pending approval." This means we have sent a request to renew the book to the other library. It may take a few days for approval; watch your email for updates on the loan.
Please know that it takes extra time to renew an ILL because we need to contact the other library to extend the due date. If you are close to the ILL's due date, you may not be able to renew!
Student accounts expire the Monday after finals each semester. Campus accounts often do not update with next semester's registration information until the Friday of finals week. Therefore it is best to wait until due date to request renewal. Otherwise system will not actually extend the due date.
If you have any trouble with renewals or your account, please talk to a librarian.
