Does the Library have my Textbook?

We know that students want to save money on their textbooks. The Library has a small collection of textbooks which we call Course Reserves. We reserve these textbooks because they're used by your courses (get it? Course reserves?) but we don't have every book for every class. Use the information on this page to find out if we have the textbook you need.

  • If you know your Instructor or Course Number,  click the button marked "Search for Textbook by Course or Instructor"
  • If you're looking for a Specific Book, use the search bar below
  • If you're looking for a specific article or chapter for your class, check for it under your course number, by using the button marked "Search for Textbook by Course or Instructor."

Textbook FAQ

First, if you haven't already, try both the search bar above, and/or look up your course by the course number and instructor name. Next, you could try simply searching what books we have here at Memorial Library. Use the "Books and Media" search bar on the Library's home page. If we have it, you can check it out like a regular book. If this doesn't work, chances are we might not have the book you need. Remember, we don't carry all textbooks for all courses (that would be hundreds!) as most of them change or are updated frequently. From here, you could try to find the book at one of the campus bookstores, or you could try asking a Librarian.

Textbooks for the Course Reserve Program are located in two places. First, most textbooks can be found at the front Circulation Desk.

go to the big front desk to find most reserves

However, if a Course Reserve says it's in the ERC Course Reserve, you'll need to go down the the ERC on the lower level of the library. Take the east stairwell down and the ERC desk will be directly in front of you.

The educational resource center is located in the lower level of the library

You check out Course Reserve books just like any other book: with your MavCard! Just be sure to pay attention to the due date and time, as many of the textbooks have different rental periods.

make sure you have your mavcard

Many of the textbooks and materials will have different check-out periods, so be sure to watch your receipts! However, most of the general textbooks located behind the front desk have a 2 Hour Checkout.

As an instructor, you can place one of your own books or one of the library's books on Course Reserve by simply filling out the appropriate form. The form can either be picked up and dropped off at the front desk of the library, or else the form can be completed and submitted online. The online form can be found online as a resource for MSU Faculty and you can access it by clicking the button below. If you're curious about the specific policies of putting a book on reserve, check out our policies, also linked below.
