POL 474 Presidency of the US

Searching for Books and Call Numbers

In the General Collection on the second floor of the Library, you can find most of our books studying the Presidency. They will be evenly divided between two sections. The first section is very large and span the call number range E 311 to E 909 This section of books is arranged chronologically and covers the history of the United States. You can browse this area for books about specific presidents.  E 176 has some general histories of the presidency.

The second section is likely more important overall. Starting at the call number JK 501 are political science books focused on the presidency. In most cases I would suggest searching for books rather than browsing. To do so use the Book & Media tab on the Library home page and search. Let me know if you have any difficulty or stop by the Reference Desk on the first floor of the Library.

Numerous collections of primary documents related to specific presidents can be found in the General Collection on the 2nd Floor of the Library at the call number E 311 and forward. Remember these roughly are arranged chronologically, so you can browse, but the most efficient method is to search the Library Catalog for a president, get the call number for a book about him, and then go to the specific shelf and browse.
