Digitized Maps

The Dr. Mary T. Dooley Digital Map Library features two map collections: Minnesota River Surveys and Minnesota Works Progress Administration City Plat Maps.

Minnesota River Surveys, 1909-1912 is a series of digitized maps of Minnesota rivers and lakes by the Minnesota State Drainage Commission in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey. These maps and profiles were prepared to accompany the Report of Water Resources Investigations of Minnesota, 1909-1912. The State Drainage Commission surveyed rivers to understand Minnesota's water resources and their potential for power generation and transportation. The State Drainage Commission was also investigating options for reservoir sites and drainage systems to control flooding, limit pollution, and improve community health.

Minnesota Works Progress Administration (MWPA) City Plat Maps, [1936] is a series of digitized city plat maps created under the supervision of the Minnesota Department of Highways. The compiling, editing, and drafting of these maps were started by the Civil Works Administration (CWA) and the Emergency Relief Administration (ERA) and completed by the MWPA. This collection, part of a larger set, are the plat maps of cities in Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Murray, Nicollet, Rice, Sibley, Steele, Waseca, and Watonwan counties. The maps are a scale of 1:24,000 or 1 inch = 200 feet.
