This Obituary Index includes information about obituaries from the Mankato Free Press and its predecessor newspapers. The primary dates for obituaries in the index are: 1869-1879; 1888-1954; 1970-2002, and 2009-2020.
This index is not complete. There are some gaps in the indexing and not every obituary was indexed. If you do not find a name of a Mankato area resident that you expect to find it is still possible an obituary was published in the newspaper.
Tips include looking at the Minnesota People Search or Find a Grave to find a date of death and then looking in the Mankato Free Press around that date to find an obituary.
Digitized photographs, Katonians (yearbooks), catalogs, bulletins and miscellaneous material from the University Archives. Images from 1868-2000s. New content added regularly.
