Scholar Profiles

You can always email Heidi Southworth to help you set up a Scholar Profile and include the following information: 

1. How would you like your name to appear (Full name, Just first and last name, etc.)? 
2. Select three disciplines from this list that best match your research interests.
3. What are your research interests?  Please send me keywords or phrases that describe your research interests.  (No Limit on the number of interests!)
4. Do you have a list of works that you would like to include on your profile?  Please sent a CV or list and indicate which works you would like to include. 

If you would like to try it out yourself, below are some helpful instructions.  if you have questions, please contact Heidi at any time! 

First, follow the instructions below to set up your Scholar Profile Account. 

1. Go to https://works.bepress.com/login  
2. Where it says “Don’t have an account? Sign up” = click on Sign up
3. Enter your mnsu email address (firstname.last@mnsu.edu)
4. Enter your first and last name
5. Enter a password and then Confirm the password
6. Click on the box next to “I’m not a robot” and do the reCAPTCHA
7. Click on Create Account and you should be all set to create a Scholar Profile.

Next, you can set up your Scholar Profile. 

1. If you have logged out, go to https://works.bepress.com/login and log in with your user name and password.  
2. Otherwise, you should see a box appear that says Build Your SelectedWorks.  SelectedWorks and Scholar Profiles are the same thing.  SelectedWorks is the name of the product that we have purchased to help you build your Scholar Profile. 
3. At the top, it asks you to Choose a Profile URL.  This is usually pre-populated with your First Name-Last Name. You can change this to whatever you wish, but we recommend sticking with your first and last name.  If you have a very common name (ex. John Smith), you can edit the URL to include your middle initial, middle name, or you can abbreviate your first name. 
4. Next, select three Disciplines that best match your research fields.  A complete list can be found at https://bepress.com/reference_guide_dc/disciplines/
5. For Institution, you can select from the drop down menu or you can start typing in Minnesota State University, Mankato and the name of the University should appear. 
6. For Organization, you can select from the list of departments or type in your department name. 
7. For Position, select one of the options in the list:
8. For Position Title, type in your title that you commonly use, such as Associate Professor of Geography or Professor of Computer Science, etc. 
9. Read and then check the box next to Terms of Service. 
10. Click on Create Profile to create your Scholar Profile.
