Anth 414: Museology

Welcome

Museum history, philosophy of museums, the legal and ethical issues impacting museums, the nature and treatment of collections, creation, exhibition and exhibit design, the role of museums in education, museum personnel and financial management, and museums in the technological/electronic age will be reviewed in this course. Through our readings, discussions, activities, and service learning, you will come to appreciate the complexity of the world of museums and collections.

Learning Outcomes: Students completing this course will be able to understand museum work from a theoretical basis and be able to apply skills in exhibit design and creation, basic conservation and collections care, and address issues of community members and museum stakeholders in the daily functions of museum work.
