MavScholar Search Tips

Use the following search tips to refine your search in MavScholar.

Question mark (?) will match any one character

  • wom?n will find woman and women

Asterisk (*) will match zero or more characters at the end of a word

  • temp* will find temptation, temple, and temporary

Quotation Marks ("")
Put quotation marks around any words you want to search as a phrase:
"teacher education"
Experienced users recommend using quotation marks liberally!


AND, OR, and NOT must be in ALL CAPITALS in your search.

By default, MavScholar a string of search terms as a phrase.

AND
Use AND to separate phrases, while requiring results to contain all words:
teacher education AND training will return results with the phrase "teacher education" and the word training

OR
Use OR to expand your search:
"teacher education" OR "teacher training" will return results that contain either term.

NOT
Use NOT to exclude terms:
animal NOT dog will return results that do not include the term dog.
